Telephone Companion (Social calls to a veteran in NW London)

Can you spare up to an hour a week to brighten someone’s day, from the comfort of your own home? If so, you could be who we are looking for.

We try to meet the needs of our veterans where and when ever possible. Currently, we are looking for a telephone befriender to provide some much needed social support to one of our veterans.

Our telephone befrienders provide crucial social interaction to those who might have little or no support from family and friends or who might be struggling to get out and about. Sadly, this can often leave our veterans feeling isolated or lonely.

By having a quick chat once a week, our telephone befrienders provide a friendly voice on the other end of the phone, which can make a huge difference to a veterans life. Whether it’s a conversation about their interests and hobbies, or reminiscing about their time in the military, stories about the places they've been to or even just a chat about the weather, every call is thoroughly valued.

Although you will be working independently, your manager is only a phone call away and there is a network of other volunteers for you to link in with too.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18 years and understand the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries. The role can be flexible around your other commitments, but we ask that you are reliable and punctual for our veterans. You will be fully trained and supported so you feel comfortable and confident in your volunteering.

Please get in touch if you are interested in supporting us to support our amazing veterans.
