Sports Volunteer (Bedford)

Opportunity image

Whether it's swimming, hiking, golf or even archery, our blind veterans love getting involved in sports and it's great for their wellbeing!

As a sports volunteer you will be on hand to make sure that they can fully participate in a safe way. Sometimes this will mean providing descriptions of things where they may not be able to see, or guiding a veteran to help them orientate themselves. For this role, we are looking for volunteers who aren’t afraid to get stuck in, and have great experience and understanding of carp fishing.

Our member misses the calmness of sitting out in the natural world next to a lake waiting for that carp to bite. He hasn't been able to fish for the past 3 years, but has fished since his eyesight has been impacted. He feels having this experience as often as possible, whatever the weather would be fantastic for his general wellbeing. Our member is early 70s, ex Navy, and will be able to fish with a little support. He would also appreciate borrowing equipment if possible. Could you help this member bring his passion for fishing to life again? Ideally you will drive and have your own transport.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18 years and understand the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries. The role can be flexible around your other commitments, but we ask that you are reliable and punctual for our veterans. You will be fully trained and supported so you feel comfortable and confident in your volunteering.
